Hi, Everyone:
I’m considering buying a Polaris EV to use on a small farm (around 20 acres). I have the following questions--please assume that I’m an idiot in your answers, because the only similar vehicle I’m familiar with is the electric golf cart that I’ve had for the past 10 years:
1. I’ve seen YouTube videos of people using the Polaris EV to mow by attaching a brush hog to it. Do you think that’s realistic? I want to use it to mow the farm, since buying a tractor seems a bit overkill and less versatile than the Polaris EV would be. The fields that I want to mow are mostly flat and easy--would the Polaris be able to handle it?
2. If you think that the Polaris *could* handle it, what would I need to purchase? I’m not completely clear on what a winch is or does (hence the “idiot” sentence above), but I’m assuming that it’s something that allows the Polaris to tow other things, like a hitch? If so, I’ll need to purchase that from the Polaris dealer at the time I buy the EV? Polaris doesn’t appear to sell a brush hog. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I should go to get a suitable brush hog?
3. These expensive batteries scare me to death, since I’ve never been great about watering the batteries in my golf cart. If I get the EV, I plan to be a totally reformed person. I like those things that somehow attach into the batteries and allow you to water the batteries with just one pulse. Where do I get those? Is that something that I could ask the Polaris dealer to do for me?
4. I’ve been reading on these forums that the battery charging algorithm needs to be reset to take somewhat longer, so that it doesn’t fry the batteries. I’m in favor of not frying the batteries! Is this something that I could ask the dealer to do for me, before I get the EV? If so, what’s the current thinking on the optimum setting for a 2016 EV?
That’s about all I can think of. If anyone has any other input on the plusses and minuses of buying an EV for tooling around and mowing a small farm, I’d love to hear what you have to say. Thanks!
