Hey guys, been unable to sleep tonight so thought I would share this. Not sure what others think but Ive been considering the switch to lithium for sometime now. Unfortunately, the cost has been the limiting factor for me. So I reached out to Voltronixs for new pricing and discovered cost have actually increased not decreased while wet cell technology remains stagnant. Im actually surprised by this as I for one had assumed lithium power would become more competitive due to increased sales volume helping to reduce overall manufacturing cost. Based on this I dont ever see lithium power taking over the wet cell market. Maybe another cheaper form of electrical storage will someday but not Lithium. Pretty disappointing.... Voltronixs if your listening I love what you guys are doing just anxiously awaiting more affordability.
Here is my response. Lol and just think my coffee isnt even ready yet. Do most of you feel the same? Just curious the general consensus.
Hello,
Yes I did a couple years ago. Recently, a friend of mine mentioned Lithium pricing had become more competitive so thought I would check in with you. Unfortunately, it appears that cost have significantly gone up becoming even less attractive for me to make the switch. I see the benefits but ultimately the pricing differential is just to great for me to swallow. Im surprised by this too because normally as newer technologies mature they also tend to become more competitively priced. Ive been a huge fan of electric powered carts for hunting since the late 90s and can remember telling friends that electric powered versions were just around the corner. All this while Im using a modified electric Club Car that a lot of guys really liked. But I never would have dreamed this would be such a slow process. Here we are 20 years later and there has been very little improvements in this space. Electric power will never make a strong entryway into our society until it becomes more affordable to the average American. Just think there are over 300,000,000 people in the US now and Voltronixs has sold how many lithium cells for golf carts and other 4x4 buggies? How many EVs does Polaris sell annually? How many electric hunting carts in general are sold? How many lithium powered of any carts are sold? I can tell you not many in the scheme of things. We have 8 EVs in our club and all are interested in Lithium but unfortunately no one has made the switch due to cost. No mainstream manufacturers sell them as a factory option (Polaris did in past) nor do any local shops do lithium conversions and or upgrades.
To give you a idea most people in our club make $80-100k annually. So lets say someone makes 100k annually and 30% goes to taxes. Now we have $70k to work with and to put toward our hobby. The problem is not many are willing or can spend 12-15% of their annual income on upgrading their equipment. Its not a necessity plus $2-2.5k for old lead batteries still gets the job done. I know I can get the small pack to save money but the reason I would make the change is for added range so one of the two larger packs is all Im interested in purchasing. Anyway, sorry for the rant but wanted to share my thoughts as I continue aging while waiting on a more economical and advanced form of power.
Thank you for the update.
