New (lazy) owner question

I just took delivery of a 2019 Ranger EV. It should have an easy life with me…mainly pulling a landscaping cart, trips to a greenhouse on our Central Virginia rural property, and saving this old guy some steps. So far, I love the ride and SILENCE, of this thing. BUT, already have questions while taking care of the ‘battery basics’ I read about on this forum: mats, watering system, algorithm adjust. Compared to what I read about prior years, access to the batteries is much more cramped and USER SURLY than was the case for earlier models.

Before installing the watering fittings/tubes, I figured I’d better get the mats in. Even with battery cables out, and hold-downs removed there is no maneuvering room to slide mats under. I’ll have to take one or two batteries totally out. The compartment is so tight, this will mean a lot of tilting and angling of batteries (…is that a problem?). So, the lazy part of me is starting to win the argument, and says “skip the mats” and avoid any spilling while jostling these things around. Any thoughts on what is really essential here? I plan to change algorithm to #71, so any boiling/leakage should be minimal.
