12V separate battery circuit?

I am having problems with many connections on my 2011 Ranger EV's (I have a separate thread on that).

The most annoying problem, that I have yet to solve, is the 12V connection to the DC converter. It appears to be clean. The connector looks good. When it works, I can draw 20+ amps for short periods. But when I turn the key and there are no dash lights, the Ranger understandably won't go. Going around the DC Converter seems to be the easiest solution.

I searched through the threads and did not find a way to add a 12V battery to the system. I found the separate system for the winch, but no advice on hijacking the 12V from the DC Converter and using a separate 12V battery instead, which would then power up the 12V system. I have 48V DC relay. I can drive that coil from the key switch, and turn on the power from the 12V battery to the fuse box ... is that all I need to do?
